Cluster preferences saved automatically now

Category: Dashboard Maps,Mapping,New Features,New Featuresrdonat @ 9:21 am

We recently released our new vehicle clustering to dashboard and 2D maps.

Now when you turn them on or off, we remember your preference within the browser:

Multiple cluster settings remembered automatically

Multiple cluster settings remembered automatically

Additionally, we have made it more intuitive to zoom in & out from a cluster “aggressiveness” and those settings are ALSO saved at the browser level:

Change the clustering "aggressiveness" with the plus/minus pop-up control

Change the clustering "aggressiveness" with the plus/minus pop-up control

You can use the – and + buttons which pop up when hovering over the cluster control to change at what level the individual pins are grouped into clusters:

Zoom cluster level shown numerically and saved

This allows you to really configure the maps to your liking.

The last thing we added to help you visualize your fleet’s location is to add a dynamic hover-over to each cluster which lists the vehicles along with their color-coded status and shape-coded vehicle category:

Hover-over list of vehicles for each cluster

Hover-over list of vehicles for each cluster

If there are more than 10 vehicles, you’ll get a breakdown instead of individual vehicle names:

As always, we have listened to your suggestions and comments, and have made GPS Insight more insightful and easy for you to use.

Thanks,
Rob.

Map Clustering coming sooner rather than later

The other day I talked about bringing pin clustering to GPS Insight.

It’s going to happen much sooner than later — probably this week.

Here is a preview:

New status/size clusters for large groups of vehicles

New status/size clusters for large groups of vehicles

We will dynamically change the ring colors and sizes based on how many vehicles are moving, speeding, idling, etc., and based on how many vehicles are in each cluster (along with a number).

So this:

Too many dots on a map

Too many dots on a map

Becomes this:

After clustering, with hover-over details

After clustering, with hover-over details

Now, hovering over gives you a nice color-coded legend of how many vehicles are in each status:

Cluster detail hover-over

Cluster detail hover-over

And then zooming down by single-clicking a cluster gives an instant zoom of that area:

Zoomed in to see both pins and clusters

Zoomed in to see both pins and clusters

We’ll release this by the end of the week or over the weekend most likely.  It can be toggled so if you don’t like the new functionality, you can turn it off easily.

Thanks,

Rob.

Too many dots on a map?

We recognize that sometimes there’s too much information on the map for larger customers with lots of vehicles.

Every customer is different though, in terms of “vehicle density” so we are about to make it a configurable option to chose how your dots and labels behave when zooming in and out:

In a few days, we will release a new, configurable mechanism to allow customers to choose which zoom level the labels and “large pins” appear and/or turn into “small pins” without labels:

Too many labels

Too many labels

Choose which zoom level works best for you to take the large pins and labels and turn them into small pins with no labels:

Change the zoom level where small/big dots appear

Change the zoom level where small/big dots appear

And now the dots are less cluttered with labels (and clicking any dot brings up information about the vehicle):

More decipherable location information without labels

More decipherable location information without labels

And soon, we will be making map “cluster” markers such as this available (and the color/size will change based on the vehicle makeup and activity):

Vehicle cluster icons

Vehicle cluster icons

Zooming in will eventually show the individual pins and labels:

zooming into a clustered set of vehicles

zooming into a clustered set of vehicles

The cluster icons will dynamically show color/proportion based on vehicle activity, stop times, etc.

We’ll let you know when this becomes available, and as always, there will be options to allow you to turn it on/off and thresholds where the pins begin to appear individually.

Enjoy, and let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions — we always appreciate knowing what works best for our customers and prospects.

Thanks,

Rob.

New Vehicle Icons available now!

We have just added many new icon choices for you to use to distinguish your various types of trucks:

New Vehicle Icons in GPS Insight

New Vehicle Icons in GPS Insight

It’s very easy to associate various vehicles or groups of vehicles with the different truck types and shapes within GPS Insight:

Hover over an icon to see it close up

Hover over an icon to see it close up

You just need to limit the vehicles with filters (e.g. group, text), and select them (with ctrl or shift to select multiple vehicles), then drag and drop the icon onto the selected vehicles to make the icon change:

Filter your list of vehicles

Filter your list of vehicles

Drag and Drop to change Icon Shape

More New Graphs (and many to come)

Category: dashboard dashlets,Dashboard Maps,Graphs,New Featuresrdonat @ 2:37 pm

Recently (a week ago), we promised a lot of graphs coming, & here are 3 more:

New Speeding Graph and vehicle-centric graphs

New Speeding Graph and vehicle-centric graphs

The top graph is a histogram of speeding events relative to the speed limit with different colors representing the severity of the speeding.

The bottom graphs show 3 different per-vehicle metrics:

  • MPG
  • Miles Driven
  • Idle Hours

Each different graph dashlet is configurable as to how many lines to show, which graph to show, how many days to show, etc:

Modify each graph dashlet

Modify each graph dashlet

Each “per-vehicle” graph is also configurable as to which graphs & how long to show, and the vehicle shown is the one most recently clicked upon in the “vehicle picker.”

Here is a screenshot of just how much you can easily depict within your dashboard, and save/call up whenever you want an overview of your groups of vehicles:

Lots of graphs and maps available within GPS Insight's new graphs dashlets

Lots of graphs and maps available within GPS Insight's new graphs dashlets

And the new “dashlet group” functionality makes it very quick to set up dashboards like this instantly.

Enjoy!

New Mapping and Dashlet Features for Touch-pad Devices (e.g. iPad, iPhone)

We have new Mapping and Dashlet functionality for users of touch-pad devices such as the iPad and iPhone.

Touchpad clients such as the iPad and iPhone do not allow the same “drag and drop” or “pan” capabilities as a mouse and a browser, so we had to make a few additions.

The new scroll arrows allow you to easily move through a Mapping Dashlet. Clicking the middle square button will zoom to fit the vehicles on the map, or vehicle/group that is shown within that map (such as the “WEST” group here):

New Scroll Arrows

New Scroll Arrows

We added a new arrow “popup” which allows you to move Dashlets around within your dashboard. Click up, down, left, or right and the Dashlet will move accordingly. To access this feature just click on the icon.  Then to close it, click that icon again.

New Arrow Popup

New Arrow Popup

Here is an example of the new navigational features on an iPhone:

New Features on an iPhone

New Features on an iPhone

Bear in mind that on an iPhone, the main product is functional, but you will need to zoom/pan around since the resolution is pretty small.  On an iPad you will still need to zoom a bit in order to ensure your finger “clicks” the appropriate icons/vehicles, etc.

We also added a new feature to the Dashlet Dock, called “Add-Dashlet”. You will now notice a plus sign (+) to the right of each Dashlet name. Clicking the plus sign will load the Dashlet. Originally, to add a new Dashlet you would have to drag and drop. Now both options are available.

These new features are available to everyone, but were added specifically for touch-pad users. If you have a suggestion for a new feature or for a specific device, please let us know.

Thanks,

Rob.

New “Hide Vehicle Label” on Dashlet Maps

We now offer a new option to “hide” Vehicle Labels on all Dashlet Maps. Simply open the Dashlet edit settings by clicking on the pencil icon, find “Vehicle Labels” and then choose “None” from the drop-down menu. By utilizing this new option, you can avoid extra clutter on the map, especially when viewing a large number of vehicles.

Select "None" from the Vehicle Labels drop-down menu

Below are examples of the same mapping Dashlets with and without labels:

We also allow the vehicle icons to be clicked, which will then open up an information box. To remove the box, just click on it.

Click on Vehicle icon for information box

This new feature went from “customer request” to “in production” in just seven days! Always feel free to give us a call if you have a suggestion for a new feature by calling 866-477-4321.

Rob.

Drag and Drop to create Fleet Tracking Maps in GPS Insight’s dashboard

Category: Dashboard Maps,Ease of use,New Features,Video Demosrdonat @ 2:34 pm

We just added a couple nice new capabilities to make it trivial to create a map on the GPS Insight dashboard by dragging and dropping either a single vehicle or the name of the group up at the top of the dashboard.

Just be careful to move dashlets by dragging on the RIGHT side of the title bar now (or you’ll create a map accidentally).

Here’s a quick video which shows how to do it:

Thanks,

Rob
